ChartPull analyses your entire organisation structure and gives you a score from 0 to 100. It tells you where your org is strong, where it is fragile, and what you should fix.
Organisation Insights, Person Insights, and the AI Dashboard Narrative all require the AI Features add-on.
The Organisation Health Score is a single number (0–100) that summarises how well your company is structured. It is calculated by AI analysing four dimensions of your org chart, then combining them into a weighted overall score.
The overall score is a weighted average of the four dimensions. It is displayed as a visual gauge on the main dashboard alongside AI-generated recommendations for improvement. The score updates automatically every time your employee data syncs from Google Workspace.
Severity ranges
Each dimension is scored independently, then combined for the overall health score. Here is what each one measures and why it matters.
What it measures: How many people report directly to each manager. Research suggests 5–8 direct reports is the optimal range.
Why it matters: A manager with 3 direct reports may be a bottleneck or an unnecessary layer. A manager with 18 direct reports cannot give each person adequate attention, leading to lower engagement and higher turnover.
What ChartPull flags: Managers with fewer than 3 or more than 12 direct reports are highlighted as potential issues. The AI explains the specific concern for each case.
When you click on any employee in the org chart, ChartPull generates an on-demand, AI-powered summary of that person’s role and position in the organisation. This is called a Person Insight. Insights are cached for the duration of your session, so clicking the same person again loads instantly.
A Person Insight typically includes:
Use Person Insights for 1:1 prep
Before a skip-level meeting or a performance review, pull up the Person Insight for the employee. It gives you instant context on their place in the org, their team size, and any structural issues affecting them. Here are common issues that ChartPull Insights catches in real organisations:
A VP of Sales at a 300-person company had 18 salespeople reporting directly to them. The Insights panel flagged this as a critical span-of-control issue and recommended splitting the team into two groups with a regional manager for each.
The health score for “Span of Control” was 42/100. After the company created two regional manager roles, the score rose to 78/100.
The AI Dashboard Narrative requires the AI Features add-on and appears at the top of your admin dashboard. It is a plain-English paragraph summarising your organisation’s current state and recent trends. For example:
The narrative updates each time your data syncs. It is designed for executives and HR leaders who want a quick, readable summary without clicking through charts and numbers.
Review the dimension breakdown
Check which of the four dimensions (span, depth, balance, resilience) is pulling your overall score down. Focus on the lowest-scoring one first.
Click on flagged employees
The Insights panel highlights specific people who are contributing to structural issues. Click on each one to see the Person Insight with details.
Address span of control issues
If a manager has too many direct reports, consider creating a team lead role beneath them. If they have too few, consider whether that management layer is needed.
Fix your directory data
Missing manager fields and blank titles lower your score. Use the Data Quality feature to find gaps, then update your Google Workspace directory.
Wait for the next sync
After making changes in Google Workspace, ChartPull will pick them up on the next sync. Your health score will recalculate automatically.
