Org Chart Views

ChartPull gives you four ways to look at your organisation. Switch between views instantly using the toolbar at the top of the chart — your position and filters carry over.

Choosing the Right View

Every organisation is different. A 30-person startup needs a different view than a 2,000-person enterprise. Here is a quick cheat sheet:

Under 100 employees — Tree View shows the full picture at a glance.
100–500 employees — Tree View with branches collapsed, or Compact View for a birds-eye overview.
500+ employees — Compact View for navigation, D3 Interactive for presenting to leadership.
Looking up one person — List View is the fastest way to find and sort employees.

View Modes

StarterIncluded in all plans

The default view. Your organisation is displayed as a top-down hierarchy — the CEO at the top, with branches flowing downward through each level of management.

What each card shows:

Profile photo (pulled from Google Workspace, or a coloured initial if none exists)
Full name and job title
Department (colour-coded to match the legend)
Direct report count — a small badge showing how many people report directly to this person

How to navigate:

Click the arrow on any card to expand or collapse that branch.
Click the card itself to open the detail panel on the right, showing the full employee profile.
Use the “Expand All” and “Collapse All” buttons in the toolbar to open or close every branch at once.

Keyboard shortcut

Press E to expand all branches and C to collapse them back.

Performance

ChartPull is built to handle large organisations without lag. The tree-building algorithm runs in linear time — meaning it processes 10,000 employees in under 20 milliseconds, even on a mid-range laptop.

50 employees — instantaneous
1,000 employees — under 5 ms
5,000 employees — under 12 ms
10,000 employees — under 20 ms

If your browser ever feels slow, it is almost certainly a network issue (fetching data), not a rendering issue. Try refreshing the page or checking your internet connection.

Switching Between Views

The view switcher sits in the toolbar, directly above the chart. Click any view icon to switch instantly. A few things to know:

Your search query carries over when you switch views.
If you had a detail panel open, it stays open in the new view.
Filter state (department, location) is preserved across all views.
The URL updates, so you can bookmark or share a link to a specific view.
