Click any employee card or row to open the detail panel. It shows everything ChartPull knows about that person — from their Google Workspace profile data to custom fields your team has added.
The detail panel slides in from the right side of the screen whenever you click on an employee. It works in every view — Tree, List, Compact, and D3 Interactive.
To close the panel, click the X button in the top-right corner, press Esc, or click anywhere outside the panel.
Every employee profile includes these fields, automatically synced from Google Workspace:
| Field | Source | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Photo | Google Workspace | Profile photo from Google. Shows a coloured initial if no photo is set. |
| Name | Google Workspace | Full name as it appears in the directory. |
| Title | Google Workspace | Job title as set in Google Admin Console. |
| Department | Google Workspace | The department this person belongs to. Colour-coded to match the chart legend. |
| Google Workspace | Primary email address. Click to open your mail client. | |
| Location | Google Workspace | Office or city, if set in the directory. |
| Reporting chain | Computed | Full path from this person up to the CEO. Each name is clickable — tap any manager to jump to their profile. |
| Direct reports count | Computed | The number of people who report directly to this person, with a list of each direct report. Click any name to navigate to them. |
Read-only sync
All Google Workspace fields sync automatically. ChartPull does not modify your directory — it is read-only. If you need to update someone’s title or department, do it in Google Admin Console and ChartPull will pick up the change on the next sync.Clickable reporting chain
The reporting chain is one of the most useful navigation tools. Click any name in the chain to jump directly to that person’s profile. This lets you trace a reporting path from an individual contributor all the way up to the CEO in seconds. All base licenses include additional detail panel features that go beyond what Google Workspace provides.
In many organisations, people have a primary (solid-line) manager but also report to a secondary (dotted-line) manager for specific projects or functions. For example, a marketing analyst might report to the Head of Marketing but also have a dotted line to the CFO for budget reporting.
Dotted lines appear in the detail panel as a separate section below the primary reporting chain. In Tree View and D3 Interactive, they are rendered as dashed lines connecting the two employees.
Admins can add or remove dotted-line relationships from the detail panel. Search for the person and select the type of relationship (e.g. “project lead”, “functional manager”, or a custom label).
Not everyone in your organisation has a Google Workspace account. Contractors, temporary staff, pending hires, and board members often exist outside of your directory. ChartPull lets you add these people manually so your org chart reflects the complete picture.
Click "Add Employee" in the toolbar
The button is in the top-right of the chart toolbar, next to the export options.
Fill in the profile fields
Enter the person's name, title, department, and email. Only name is required. All other fields are optional.
Assign a manager
Search for and select their manager. This places them in the correct position in the org chart hierarchy.
Save
The manual employee appears immediately in all views. They are visually distinguished with a small badge so you can tell they were added manually rather than synced from Google.
Manual employees and sync
Manual employees are stored in ChartPull, not in Google Workspace. If someone later gets a Google Workspace account and appears in a sync, you may end up with a duplicate. We recommend removing the manual entry once the person is in your Google directory.| Feature | Plan |
